Using a laptop is mostly difficult compare to using a PC. This because laptops go against the basic and standard ergonomic design that is required in PC. In terms of postural, using a laptop is a disadvantage, it may result into neck and back problems, cramping of hand and wrist because of the poor positioning. But as they said, if there is a disadvantage then there would be always an advantage, one of that benefits is the portability of the gadget where you can work in a train, bus, or plane.
As I do some research about proper posturing in using a laptop, I came across this page that classifies the user of laptops. At first I was baffled by it, and I was wondering between Occasional User and Full-time Users but as I analyzed it and figuring it out, then the clear picture revealed.
Occasional Users
These users are the ones who used their laptop in few hours; let us say about 4 to 5 hours a day. These people sometimes are students or worker in the bus station or the taxi drivers (you are free to laugh). So if you are one of them then you have to secure your neck or head, consider its position. You find a place where you can sit back in comfortably. Position your laptop where you can dangle your elbow and can place you wrist on the laptop where you can place your wrist at rest for a while. See to it that the laptop’s monitor is best angle for you to use. Better if you angle it more than 90 degrees, but less than 110 degrees.
Full-time Users
These users are the ones who used their laptop frequently, mostly are students and majority is office employees. And those guys or ladies are using their laptop as their main computer. Then if you are one of them, position your laptop on the table where you don’t need to bend down your neck to see the screen. Also you can put your laptop above on a stable support so that you can have elevation against the surface of the table. Make it sure that your chair is comfortable enough. Also it is advisable to use keyboard and mouse separately to mimic the functionality of a PC.
In general, when you used a laptop then you have to position yourself comfortably and avoid using your laptop while you are in prone position or you placed the laptop on the floor. Avoid the position the will cramp your body parts. To know more visit this site below.
